His idea of virtue is based on the "golden mean" where courage sits on a spectrum between cowardliness and foolhardiness. Being courageous is dealing with the fear in the best way and to the right amount. So one can never be too courageous.
However, whether you yourself are virtuous or have the nerves enough to undertake the golden mean of courage is perhaps a very different question.
