And lo, My computer is back online...
Jul. 6th, 2006 11:28 pmYeah, so my computer decided to die last Saturday. Seemed that Windows misplaced a file, and couldn't get a new one (and we tried grabbing the CD, but it wouldn't read it. Snob). I decided that this was an excellent opportunity to do some much-needed maintenance on the damn thing, which basically amounted to grabbing all my personal files, saving them somewhere, then nuking the hard drive and starting all over. On the way, we found that the reason the computer wouldn't boot from a CD was because the BIOS didn't have the CD drive set up as slave. Which was mildly embarrassing.
While I was doing this, of course, I did a few things a lot better. Like, you know, setting a special partition for the operating system, and another partition for all my personal files, so when this happens again, I won't need to ask for another person's computer in order to get everything fixed up (My greatest thanks goes out to my wonderful friends at Jaguar Drive, for the use of their time, computers, and spare parts to bring my computer back to life!)
