The comments on this article just continue to prove that people see exactly what they want to see. To be fair, I think the article is worse.
Let me put it to you very simply and very clearly - Almost every instance of "Americanisation" in Australian English has either been part of the language long before America reached it's cultural superpower status, or has been switching in and out of the language for about as long.
Oh, and even if some changes in language could be directly connected to the influence of one of the many American Accents (there's more than one), that's okay. Really. Americans seem to be able to get their points across just fine. Hell, there are some excellent parts of American language use that I'd love to see adopted properly down here (like all their spelling reforms - They make the written form much closer to the spoken form, even in Australian English.
I do understand the whole overreaction to changing language thing. It's a big part of the identity of people, and everyone thinks they're right, and that everyone should speak like they do. But I don't have to like it. *grumps*
