I do not normally use my blog as a way of venting my anger at the world, probably because I keep trying to claim that it doesn't exist - that I'm entirely optimistic about the eventual state of the world, that I believe that Tolerance will eventually spread. There's probably a reason for this, really - I can't stop caring about the world, so to keep myself sane I force myself to look at the world in a state of perpetual optimism. I have to believe that I can change the world.

And then this happens.

It's not necessarily the murder that I worry about. It's the fact that no one is picking this story up. Two teenagers make up a story about a guy being gay and hitting on them, to get out of jail time, and not one media outlet outside the town wrote anything about it. This happened two months ago, and the details are only just coming out now.

You cannot honestly imagine how disgusted I am right now. I actually, honestly, thought the world still cared. The only thing that really keeps me going is that people are starting to know, and that they're as disgusted as I am. Maybe the world really does still care, just that the media doesn't, so no one knows that they should. Maybe that's the most depressing thing of all here.

You have got to be kidding me... How the hell is "he might have hit on me" a justifiable defense for murdering someone? Especially the way they did?

And how the hell can Indiana's policy-makers not have a Hate Crimes bill in place?

Sadly enough, I can't say I'm surprised that this went unpublished within the state - Indiana not being widely known for tolerance of homosexuality.

I don't understand how this didn't get picked up elsewhere, though - maybe information just isn't filtering out quickly and it will start to get heard, particularly if we actually ask the media why they aren't covering it.

The fact that it sounds like they got off is what really sickens me. Mostly I echo the kind of disgust you must be feeling, not taking it as a personal insult but as an insult to Humanity.
