Ok, let's do this in order.
lofwyr has kindly decided to start a Nobilis game online, and I've decided that I'm going to play, because I've been complaining privately about the fact that at current estimates, I've GMed around 80% of games I've participated in, and feel that I should expand my horizons. As such, one of the NPCs from my Sunday Nobilis game has had a reenvisioning, and now Claude Storm, Marquis of Skies, is online and ready to play. I'm currently playing with
zae, who's playing the Marchessa of Anime.
The whole GM/Player issue is why I've decided that no force in heaven, earth or hell will convince me to continue my Mage game after this semester. Number one, it never got off to a particularly good start to begin with (I'd left too much reign on Character Generation, and as a result, I got a group of people who wouldn't logically work with each other at gunpoint...), and Number two, I was never particularly interested in running it anyway. It was always a chore to think up plots. So, it goes in the trash bin. Chalk it up to experience.
Right, number two. I'm sure many people on my friends list have noticed that I literally never jump into memes like everyone else. There is actually a reason for this, in many ways, and considering a reasonable lack of things to talk about, I thought I'd mention it. It's simply because about two years ago, I responded to an e-mail meme, specifically one of those questionnaire ones, and ended up breaking down later that week, due to an unfortunately insightful comment from an ex-girlfriend.
While it's unlikely that this will happen again, it has somewhat soured my view of "getting to know you" memes, especially. And if I don't go in for those, why should I go in for anything other meme?
Oh what the hell, I admit it. I'm terrified someone will look into my responses and find another nerve to inadvertantly tweak. And to be honest, the rest of the memes tend to be wastes of space.
Finally, fantastic (but long) quote I found accidentally, on the Nobilis Mailing List Archives. Trust me, it's worth it for the final quote:
An example here is the "Pendragon" system, where your character has the intelligence you play him (and it usually is a him) with. If he has a high Glory (experience and reputation) score, then other people will assume he is right about matters like ettiquette, sppech-making and dancing (and you get bonuses to rolls). This means that Lancelot can go to sleep in other people's tents, beside their wives, then kill the owners when they return and accuse him of cuckoldry and having more cheek that a rhinoceros's buttock, and people think -Lancelot- is in the right.
It doesn't mean that objectively we shouldn't look at him and say "See, that's Glory working for you. If Agravin tried that sort of thing he'd be jailed as a rapist." it means social reality gets bent for people who are Deeply Glorious. You can say "I had every right to betray my best friend, my feudal oath and Courtly Love by shagging the Queen. We were In Love." and half the court will go "Let's ignore the Saxon invasion and have a civil war with Arthur!" When we look at it now we go "Erm, does this make sense?" but only Sir Dinadan ever sits up in the stories and says to the Glorious "Guys, have any of you noticed that this "always fight for the woman, always
join the weaker side in battle" thing we have going doesn't make sense?" and then they shake their head at him and say "You just don't get it, do you? Possibly because you are Cornish."
