I have possible job!

Decided today to bite the bullet and sign up with a bunch of temp agencies, and about an hour ago I got a call from one of the agencies about a full-time job as a data entry clerk. So, yeah, interview's tomorrow in the city at lunchtime. It's either 10 weeks or 3 months, I'm not sure yet, it's at $18.50 an hour, and it's doing stuff I know how to do! And I get Christmas and New Year off. Cool beans.

I so should have done this earlier. I didn't realise Temp jobs replied so quickly...

They do require that you have basic computer skills (ie, they want you to be able to use Word and Excel), and that your typing speed be reasonable (about 10000 keystrokes an hour, which is about 45-50 words per minute). Also, you need to be reasonably presentable.

Still, get the resume through, since 'tis the season to be hiring (With people taking Christmas Breaks, temps get hired to replace them for the period). mycareer.com.au has a bunch of temp job ads that you should go for...

I'd be careful with temp agencies.

A friend of mine had worked for a local one, and he had a job for roughly 2 years at one location because of his excellent work record. Due to that, for some reason, I guess for pulling too much money out of the temp agency due to working, they black listed him from further jobs.

They even said they had a job for him once, then backtracked (poorly) saying they didn't have a job for him.

Temp agencies help in getting money, but if you work for them more than a year and hold down the job you get, they tend to blacklist you just because you're "too successful".

Use it to pad your resume, so some company will swoop you up, or use it to get in the back door. Some jobs hire from the temp pool.

'tis Okay - I have no intention of staying with these people for any longer than this particular job they're trying me out for. I'm still at uni, so I can't do this sort of work all year round. It'll just be useful for Summer break (so much money!)

Which agency? I'm looking at doing similar work at the moment and it would be very cool if we could get to work together.
